Getting PADI in Koh Samui

Getting PADI in Koh Samui

Go diving when you are in Koh Samui, stay at MANATHAI Koh Samui

Diving in Koh Samui is yet another reason to visit this incredible tropical wonderland. With clear, warm blue waters and amazing marine life, it's no surprise that the region is extremely popular for both experienced divers and those wanting to take up the sport.

Everything from Bubblemaker, Discover Scuba diving to open water diver and professional level divemaster and instructor training is available. These accredited PADI dive courses are readily available and prices are very reasonable compared to a lot of other countries, and even neighbouring places in Southeast Asia. There's a wide range of certified dive shops offering all levels of instruction and if you look around, it's not difficult to find courses conducted in the language of your choice.

In addition to the affordable prices, one of the obvious reasons dive courses are so popular here is the great location(s) from which they are conducted. Your instruction will take place right by the beach in the shallow, calm waters off Coral Cove, Chaweng or one of several other key places around the island. The water visibility is a stunning 3-30 metres. Better yet, excluding the west coast during the monsoon season, the currents around Samui are not generally strong.

Many dive companies will also offer photography services and rentals using top of the line underwater camera equipment. This way either you, your dive buddy or instructor can capture shots of your unforgettable experience.

Most diving for novices is only a short boat ride away, while world-class sites for more advanced divers can be found less than two hours away at places like Ang Thong National Marine Park (Koh Yippon, Koh Wao, Koh Wao Lek, Koh Ta Roo). Whether you are considering trying the sport for the first time or are a serious enthusiast, you will not be disappointed by either the quality or quantity of diving around Samui, aptly called a diver's paradise! Here are three of our favourites spots:

Koh Wao

Koh Wao: An average depth in this sheltered bay is only 8 - 14 meters so it's a nice easy dive for the less experienced divers and a great way to dive yourself in if you have been out of the water for a while. The site has a fantastic selection of hard and soft corals with star corals and table staghorn corals being the most prominent.

Koh Wao Lek

Koh Wao Lek: A beautiful dive along the edge of the island, through caverns and swim-throughs. Reaching a maximum depth of 15m, you'll be fascinated by the shoals of rabbit fish and fusiliers and the abundance of pink anemone fish hiding in their homes.

Hin Yippon

Hin Yippon: Located at the Northern most point of the Marine Park this dive is not to be missed. Circumnavigating this small rock you'll find huge boulders forming fascinating swim-throughs and alleyways that make perfect hiding places for large red snappers and groupers.
