With the rainy season finally over, and more consistent sunny days on the way, now is the perfect time to visit any one of the islands stunning waterfalls, which will have just benefited from the months of heavy rain.

However, it is important that you remember a few key points before heading off to explore. Always remember to bring sun lotion and to reapply throughout the day. Appropriate footwear is also important for the hikes to the waterfalls which can involve slippery and uneven paths and rocks (especially after rainfall). Finally, remember to stay hydrated and, most importantly, have fun!

Namuang Waterfalls 1 and 2

Situated in the centre of the island, 12 kilometres South-east of Nathon Bay, the Namuang waterfalls are truly a sight to behold. Set amongst luscious green jungle, these two waterfalls provide a truly breathtaking escape from the beach life on the island. Both waterfalls can be reached easily from the well-defined walking path; and with only a half hour walk between them you can visit both on the same day. Entry to both waterfalls is free but guided tours of the waterfalls and the surrounding Namuang Safari Park can be obtained near the entrance for a fee, so that you can have all the best photo spots pointed out for you!

A short walk through some beautiful and diverse jungle on Koh Samui will lead you to Namuang Waterfall 1, standing at 18m high. The waterfall flows down into a glorious natural pool which provides a very welcome escape from the sun for both the locals and tourists alike. This is one of the most idyllic places on the islands to swim and relax in amongst the magnificent natural beauty that surrounds you, so don’t forget your swimwear! Whether you spend the whole day lounging in the water or exploring the sprawling landscapes around you on the many different hiking paths, you will get some of the most breathtaking views on the island from around here.

Koh Samui Best Waterfalls, Namuang Waterfall

Another short, but slightly more challenging walk, brings you to Namuang 2 falls. At the end of the walk you will be met with Koh Samui’s tallest and most formidable waterfall- Namuang 2- with water gushing down from an impressive height of 80m. The falls are made even more special by the perfectly serene, plush green forest in which they are found. In such an amazing setting you will be sure to get some photos that your friends and family at home will be eternally jealous of! There are a couple of pools to relax in here, one at the base and one right at the top of the falls which can be reached by climbing a track, but be very careful on this path as it becomes slippy after rainfall. Relaxing in either of these pools with the sunlight pouring in through the canopy and the falls in full flow, you will see why this this hidden oasis truly is one of Koh Samui’s most beautiful places.

Koh Samui Hidden Waterfalls, Namuang Waterfall 2

Wang Sao Thong

Although it only really has enough of a water flow to classify it as a waterfall at the height of the rainy season, Wang Sao Thong is undoubtedly one of the most secluded and peaceful spots on the island. Located just 2 kilometres South-East from the imposing Namuang 2 waterfall, whilst it cannot be compared to this formidable waterfall in terms of scale it provides un-paralleled beauty and tranquillity to those who stray off the beaten track. A well-defined 1 kilometre path from the road weaves through the lush terrain of vines, shrubs and palm trees that make the iconic terrain of Koh Samui’s jungles so memorable.

There are two levels to the waterfall and plenty of room to explore the surroundings, often on your own without any other tourists. A small but inviting pool sits at the base of the falls which is completely engulfed by huge boulders to make for a truly private setting. The dramatic rock formations and formidable canopy of trees surrounding this site will provide all budding photographers with enough inspiration for a good couple of hours! As the least touristic waterfall on our list it is perfect for those who want to escape the crowds in Koh Samui. Just make sure you keep it a secret between us, shhh!

Hin Lad Waterfall

Hin Lad Waterfall (and the nearby Wat Namtok temple) provides arguably one of the most peaceful and reflective areas on Koh Samui. With several levels and a freshwater pool at the bottom, Hin Lad is a secluded haven where you can swim, relax and enjoy a picnic in true peace and quiet.

Known for its beautiful spring flowers, the jungle surrounding the falls is blessed with a wide range of flora and fauna and provides an amazing backdrop for some rest and relaxation.
