Our Guide to Koh Samui Vacation Fashion

November 15, 2019

When heading for any destination, one of the biggest challenges is packing the right clothes into your suitcase. If you will be visiting someplace cold, you’d obviously be packing in plenty of warm clothes. If you’re going to someplace hotter, however, you’ll have to pack light and breathable garments.

In the case of going to Koh Samui, you’ll be traveling to a tropical region. Do you know what tropical regions are well known for? That’s right—heat and humidity. Of course, you should be packing shorts and breathable shirts to keep you cool while exploring the place, but with all kinds of activities there, what should you be packing precisely?

Let’s get into more details on what clothes you should be bringing when visiting Koh Samui:

Men’s Clothes

If you’re a man, there is slightly more flexibility in the type of clothes you want to wear. In most cases, you can wear swimming clothes on and off the beaches, which is what many people do. When visiting stores and sites like temples, however, keep in mind that you will need to dress appropriately. When we say dress appropriately, we mean that you should don a t-shirt and long pants, at a minimum. For daily wear, however, you’re free to wear anything that’s light. Most people will opt for shorts and a loose shirt to stay cool in the hot weather.

Women’s Clothes

It is perfectly acceptable for ladies to sport bikinis (or whatever beachwear is your favorite) on the beach in Koh Samui. That said, if your outfit shows a lot of skin, be sure to wear something else on top to cover yourself when you aren’t on the beach. Many people opt to wear sarongs or scarfs to cover the lower portions of their bodies. If you’re out and about exploring the island, wear light clothes like a beach dress or short jeans and a breathable shirt. Once again, if you’re planning to visit a temple, bring a long skirt or pants and a sleeved top.

Clothes Packing Tips

Whether you’re a man or a woman, you might be worried about packing way too many clothes into your luggage. If you’re willing to spend a little bit of money purchasing clothes when you arrive on Koh Samui, that’ll allow you to pack minimally. Many visitors actually choose to do so, as there’s plenty of things you can purchase on the island, from clothes to toiletries.

There are plenty of stores around, so there’s no shortage of stuff to buy. At the same time, your accommodation might offer free towels, umbrellas, and so on as part of the package. All these allow you to pack light on the go, giving you plenty of space in your luggage to fill with souvenirs to bring home.

With that, we hope you have a fantastic trip to Koh Samui! By knowing what to pack, you can enjoy all that Koh Samui has to offer without having to feel exposed, underdressed, or overdressed.
